Sommerville House, St Helier. Jersey. / by Rory Drinnan

Client: Axis Mason; T&G Structural Engineers; Private & Public

Sector: Workplace / Cultural

Sommerville House was conceived as a new creative and cultural hub aptly located in the north of the town’s regeneration area. It is a multi-tenanted building hosting three creative companies, covering the disciplines of architecture, art, engineering and creative technology. The interiors have been designed to present a cohesive, whole identity whilst expressing the individual culture and aspirations of the different operations they house. Materials chosen for use for the fit-out were selected to demonstrate versatility of application and unexpected appropriations. Previously a back of house bank facility, which had become neglected and run down, the new development sought to strip back the spaces to their shells to reveal and maximise the impact of existing features, such as double height spaces, roof lights, regelit walls and exposed structure.
